Urban Greening Ideas

Under-used private spaces

Currently there is a lack of green spaces in the Baker Street Quarter for residents, workers and visitors to spend time outside or to socialise. For businesses who own property in the area there are opportunities to green privately- owned outside areas, for example creating pocket parks in unused areas and replacing parking bays with seating can have a transformational effect on the public realm and encouraging people to dwell in the space.

  • Pocket Parks

Pocket parks can help encourage social interaction through planted seating areas and can provide noise absorption, utilise underused or neglected spaces, and reduce ASB.

  • Parklets

Parking and loading bays can be transformed into parklets containing seating and planters for visitors to enjoy, enhance local character and increase biodiversity.
