Operations Focus

Some of you will have met our Operations Manager Amber, who works determinedly behind the scenes to ensure that the area remains as safe, clean and welcoming for those that visit, live and work locally. For those of you that haven’t met her, here is a little bit more information about her day-to-day role in Baker Street Quarter.
Amber oversees the activities of the Street Team, ensuring that they can focus on areas of concern, visit businesses that are impacted by crime and anti-social behaviour, and share intelligence with other security teams nearby. With rising crime rates across central London, Amber works closely with local Police teams to ensure that the area retains its lower-than-average crime figures. This includes regular meetings and walkabouts alongside the Street Team with Safer Neighbourhoods Team officers as well as British Transport Police at Marylebone and Baker Street stations. They discuss problem areas and hotspots and share intelligence so that resources can be targeted appropriately. This recently led to additional patrols being introduced and activities that helped in the arrest of a prolific burglar who was targeting the West End.
In addition to this, Amber is in regular liaison with our funded outreach service The Passage to ensure that rough-sleepers in the area are receiving the support that they need and signposted to services.
Amber works with wider Metropolitan Police teams, West End Security Group (WESG) neighbouring BIDs and estates to ensure that the area is prepared and ready to respond to current threats and incidents. She has overseen the roll-out of our emergency trauma packs to buildings across the Quarter and is currently working on a mapping exercise of these and other trauma resources in the area.
And it’s not just about safety, security and resilience. Amber is also responsible for monitoring the area’s cleanliness and maintenance. Using reports from the Street Team or those reported by businesses to our One Stop Shop service, Amber works closely with partners at the Council to ensure that any issues are addressed, and follows this through to resolution. This has included incidents of graffiti, fly-posting, and litter. Amber has played a key role in the Council’s roll out of e-bike parking and monitors the situation and reports back to the Council’s team where issues arise.
Amber collates all the information relevant to Security and Facilities contacts in the area, such as events and protests of note, and street works that look likely to impact on business operations, which are sent out in our weekly email briefing every Friday. If you’re not on the mailing list but would like to be, let us know.
