New Samaritans Hub Approved

A new centre will be developed and opened by the Samaritans in Salisbury Place, just south of Marylebone Road, following planning approval being granted last month.

As part of our Smarter Giving initiative, we have begun working with the Samaritans in advance of their arrival in the area, with the delivery of awareness and training sessions. These are focused on mental health and suicide prevention in response to demand from our business members for whom we know this is a focus and concern. We are also exploring the possibility of future volunteering and fundraising opportunities for teams and individuals working locally.

Relocating from its existing centre in Soho, the new Salisbury Place base will include office desk space for the staff team, a telephone call-room, 1:1 meeting rooms for those in need, temporary sleeping accommodation for volunteers and training/meeting facilities. Central London Samaritans (CLS) is the founding branch of the Samaritans movement which, since inception in 1953, has grown to provide invaluable support to those in need through 201 branches and outreach associations across the whole of the UK and Ireland.

For those interested, spaces on the following session can be booked now:

9 May, 12:00 – 13:00 – Samaritans Time to talk – Time to Listen – taking place at our Baker Street Hub, which supports local charities, learning and wellbeing at 64 Baker Street.

We know that there are many in the area that are keen to donate time to support the Samaritans’ services. If you would like to know more about volunteering opportunities, please get in touch with our Community Impact Manager, Hannah.
