Improvements For George Street

As mentioned in an article back in November, works will begin in May in George Street, also including an exciting upgrade to George’s Pocket Park.

The wider upgrade project on George Street and Manchester Street, delivered by Westminster City Council in partnership with The Portman Estate, aims to enhance pedestrian safety, improve accessibility, and create a cohesive street environment. This includes widening footways and improving crossings, raising the carriageway and adding new cycle storage.

Alongside these works, The Portman Estate is taking the opportunity to enhance George’s Pocket Park, which will see the repaving and refreshing of the area for local users, visitors and customers, and a new operator using the space. More detail will be provided in the coming months.

Since we opened the space back in 2018, working alongside The Portman Estate and Derwent London, George’s Pocket Park has provided much-needed seating and a quiet space for those on their lunchbreaks or passing by. We are delighted that the space is now being upgraded and excited to see plans coming into fruition.

Businesses and residents located along the street will be informed in advance of works commencing and we will keep you updated as we hear more – watch this space!
