Security Update
19 August 2024
Our Operations and Street Teams continue to be busy working with local businesses and the Police to combat crime and deter antisocial behaviour in the area. While crime rates in Baker Street Quarter remain relatively low compared with other areas of central London, we are always keen to ensure that businesses, their staff, as well as the wider community continue to feel safe. Here is a round-up of their recent activities:
A Reminder to Protect Your Valuables
As we enjoy more al fresco dining and drinking in the warmer weather, a reminder that table-surfers do operate across central London, using distraction techniques to steal phones, bags and other valuables left on or next to tables. Please stay aware of your surroundings, especially when using your phone, and keep your valuables out of sight. Our Street Team continues to work closely with staff at restaurants and cafes to inform them of the risks so that they can pass on information to their customers and also gather information to identify hotspots that can be passed on to local Police teams.
Overnight Patrols
In response to a recent spike in overnight break-ins at retailers in this and neighbouring areas, we took the decision to increase our Street Team presence overnight, with a focus on retail streets and with the objective being deterrence and intelligence gathering. With this in mind, the following advice has been provided to retail businesses:
- If your premises has CCTV, please check it is in working condition and ensure all retail lock up procedures are followed.
- Consider moving stock away from the windows at nighttime.
We are grateful to The Portman Estate for co-funding this extra resource, and also to the local Police team that added additional patrols in the area.
A reminder that the Street Team can be reached at [email protected]. Always report any criminal activity – either via 999 when there is an immediate threat to people or property, or via 101 in a non-emergency.
