Refreshing Our Smarter Recycling Service

We’ve made some changes to our area-wide recycling service, making it even easier for businesses to get involved and increasing its impact on air quality and traffic congestion, teaming up with our neighbours, Harley Street BID.

The scheme simplifies waste management across the two areas, helping more businesses to cut costs and meet their green goals by minimising waste and increasing recycling rates. There’s an added benefit for the whole area too – the more businesses using our service the more we improve the area’s air quality by having fewer waste collection vehicles on the streets. Plus, it’s a great way of reducing traffic – we have already seen a 46% reduction in collection trips since launching the service in 2014, which we aim to increase as more businesses sign up to the service.

Smarter Recycling now has two scheme partners, First Mile and Recorra, offering a range of flexible solutions that work for businesses regardless of their size and type, and we have also negotiated preferential rates for Westminster City Council’s Commercial Waste Services. Businesses are able to access smart reporting tools through an online portal including compliance documentation, monthly reports and training materials to help increase their recycling rates. In addition to this, users can request a FREE waste and recycling audit to review existing waste collection provision and receive recommendations to improve sustainability credentials. The scheme isn’t just open to our members – we encourage smaller non-member businesses to sign up too to further reduce refuse collection vehicles in the area as well as kerbside waste.

Those already using Smarter Recycling have been notified directly of the changes and existing First Mile & Recorra customers will have the new rates automatically applied to them.
