Off-Peak Travel On Fridays

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has asked TfL to trial off-peak travel fares on Fridays from 8 March – getting the weekend started early, encouraging Londoners to make the most of the city and to support further return to the office.

While midweek Tube ridership is now at up to 85 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels and is continuing to grow, Friday ridership remains lower at around 73 per cent. The new lower fares, which will be trialled for 3 months, form part of wider plans to ‘revitalise Fridays’, working with businesses, cultural institutions, the hospitality sector and other key stakeholders to encourage more Londoners back into the city on Fridays to make the most of all London has to offer.

We know from our discussions with local food, drink and hospitality businesses the challenges they continue to face with lower footfall post-Covid, particularly on ‘shoulder days’ Mondays and Fridays, and we welcome this move to encourage more people into the city to help support these businesses and the area’s vibrancy.
