New Chiltern Trains

Last week, Chiltern Railways announced that it will be introducing newer trains and more trains for customers during 2026, bringing benefits including improved accessibility, First Class carriages, enhanced onboard features like reliable Wi-Fi and power sockets, and increased luggage and bike storage.

The newer trains will run on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) – a renewable fuel that reduces carbon emissions and cuts pollutants such as nitrous oxide compared to conventional diesel. This is part of efforts to decarbonise Chiltern. By December 2026, ~20% of fuel use will be HVO, compared to 7% today.

All (Class 68) locomotives in the new fleet will be fitted with automatic stop-start technology, reducing engine use while stationary, especially at terminus stations like Marylebone, and are being modified with noise reduction technology, to reduce the impact on lineside neighbours.

Chiltern Railways is also hosting a “Meet the Manager” drop-in session at London Marylebone Station on Tuesday 19 August, from 16:00 to 18:30. This is open to both customers and residents.
