Guided Virtual Tour: History of Marylebone

May 10, 2022 @ 12:30 - 13:30

Celebrate Local and Community History Month by exploring the 1,000 year history of Marylebone.

Marylebone has developed into a cosmopolitan central area in London, emulating a lovely village feel with an array of shops and restaurants, that are not your usual high street names.

But why and how has Marylebone developed this way? What is Marylebone’s history?

Why did its name from the Tyburn – a brook that ran through it towards the Thames and continues to flow beneath it streets?

Did you know most of the ‘new streets’ over the course the area’s development took their names from the extended families of the estate’s owners – Cavendish, Bentinck, Harley, Portland?

Got a thirst for history and the Marylebone area? Then this virtual guided walk will be right up your street while in the comfort of your lounge or work canteen!

This Guided Virtual Tour around Marylebone’s history will be led by Tina Hodgkinson and celebrate the Local & Community History Month.
