Dockless E-bike Use

As we enter summer, we’re likely to see more people using app-based e-bikes around the area, and, while they provide a great sustainable transport alternative, we are keen to keep streets safe and accessible for everyone. Here’s how you can help.

Riding safely

To support safe and considerate cycling, it’s helpful to follow the Highway Code guidance for cyclists, including:

  • Avoid cycling on pavements
  • Stop at red lights
  • Give priority to pedestrians at zebra crossings and junctions, even when vehicle signals have changed to green
  • Use the correct direction on one-way streets, unless signage indicates cycling is permitted both ways

Parking considerately

When ending a journey, please try to park e-bikes in designated bays where possible:

  • Use marked virtual or physical bays shown in the app
  • Keep pavements and entrances clear
  • Do not block fire exits as this causes a significant safety risk
  • If a bay is full, nearby alternative bays are usually available

Parking within designated areas helps keep shared spaces accessible and reduces obstructions for others.

Reporting issues

If you notice overcrowded bays or poorly parked bikes causing an obstruction, you can report them to Westminster City Council. This feedback helps improve how e-bikes are managed and supports better parking provision across the area.

We continue to work closely with the Council to monitor e-bike parking across the area, with our Street Team submitting reports where issues have occurred and pavements obstructed. Please do let us know if you spot any areas that need highlighting. Contact us here
