20 March 2023
A Certified B Corporation or B Corp, is a company verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. The assessment measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance, from supply chain and materials to charitable giving and employee benefits.
British skincare brand and Baker Street Quarter member, Elemis, has recently achieved B Corp certification for the first time, joining over 1500 B Corps in the UK, and over 6000 worldwide. Elemis is aiming to reduce its carbon emissions, from production through to after-sales, by 2030. It is also working to improve the traceability of its raw materials and plans to deploy local programmes to protect and restore biodiversity. The certification recognises the increasing value that consumers place on purchasing beauty products from ethical businesses. More about Elemis’ sustainability commitments can be found here.
The Portman Estate is leading the way in sustainability among the country’s land-owning estates by becoming B Corp-certified in September 2022. In its assessment, the Estate particularly excelled in the ‘Workers’ section, scoring highly on questions relating to employee satisfaction, wellness and career development, as well as in the ‘Environment’ section, which includes its target to become net zero by 2040. This forms part of The Portman Estate’s wider Sustainability Action Plan, which sets goals and actions for the coming three years and aligns with Bioregional’s One Planet Living framework. More information is available here.
Portman Square based, Aspect Capital, achieved B Corp accreditation last year, with its strong emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility and core values demonstrating consideration for its employees, suppliers, investors and the environment. With this accreditation, Aspect hope to remain at the forefront of industry best practice and to continue to meet the ever-evolving expectations of their clients and current and future employees to demonstrate the wider impact of their work.
