Outreach Update
3 November 2025
This quarter saw a reduction in activity across the area, particularly around Marylebone and Baker Street stations. The team engaged with several individuals – one on Melcombe Street was successfully supported back into existing accommodation, and another was referred to the St Mungo’s Compass team for complex rough sleeping cases and is due to be housed in specialist provision in Victoria.
Preliminary data indicates a reduction in female rough sleepers. This may be linked to changes in The Marylebone Project’s service model or to increased emergency bed availability for women. Further data will help clarify the trend.
Case Study: Supporting ‘George’ Back into Accommodation (Name changed for anonymity)
George was regularly seen begging on Melcombe Street and initially said he had nowhere to stay. Checks revealed he still had a hostel placement, but he was reluctant to return due to previous negative experiences. With George’s consent, The Passage team contacted the hostel provider to understand more about the situation and they were able to offer insight into George’s character and his specific fears and concerns about returning.
Through consistent engagement, including practical support like travel assistance and reassurance, George agreed to return. The team escorted him back and successfully got him rebooked into his accommodation, where he is now settled and engaging with ongoing support.

Last year, we created a short film which aims to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the challenges surrounding rough sleeping and what our Street Team and The Passage are doing to help – watch the film here.
