Our Street Team Wishes You A Safe And Cheery Christmas!

If you’re out and about in the area this Christmas, be sure to say hello to our super Street Team who, while many of us are out celebrating and taking a break over the festive period, will be entering their busiest time of the year, working hard to keep the area safe and clean for all.

The increase in street robbery and crime across central London is well-known. In this area incidents remain lower than in other places but it is still important to be mindful about looking after yourself and your belongings. The Team is working closely with the Police as part of its Look Up, Look Out campaign to remind the public how to reduce the risk of being targeted and ensure you enjoy your time in the capital.

Unfortunately, in London, more people out and about shopping and celebrating in the lead up to Christmas brings opportunities for thieves to prey on vulnerable tourists and people enjoying a night out. Mobile phones, high value watches, cash and jewellery are the most frequently taken items, with thieves often using pedal cycles, mopeds and E-scooters to get away faster.

The Look Up, Look Out campaign advises the following key actions you can take:

  • Stay aware of your surroundings and pay attention to who’s around you
  • Keep valuables such as mobile phones, watches and cash out of sight
  • Plan your route home

If you know of any issues or you have concerns that you would like to alert the Street Team to, you can contact them directly here.

Always report a crime to the Police. It ensures they have a more accurate picture of incidents in the area so that their resources can be targeted more effectively.

Rough Sleeping

In addition to monitoring the streets, the Street Team will also be working closely with our outreach partners at The Passage to ensure that those rough sleeping are okay and can access services and support.

If you are worried about someone that is sleeping on the streets, you can inform Streetlink here 24/7. They will alert outreach teams, including The Passage, who will visit the individual and connect them to local support services. To note – you should always call 999 if the person is in immediate danger, needs medical assistance, or is under 18.
