Supporting Rough Sleepers

With an increase in rough sleeping in central London, our Street Safety Team is working hard to support vulnerable individuals in the Quarter. Our team know by name the regular rough sleepers who frequent the area, and give information on where to find food, showers and hot drinks, as well as providing connections to charities like St Mungo’s for more long-term support.

The Quarter has in part seen a rise in rough sleeping due to factors relating to Covid and events in other areas causing displacement to different areas of London.

As always, we work closely with the outreach teams from Westminster City Council, St Mungo’s and more to provide the appropriate support and advice, as well as checking in on their welfare. Now that St Mungo’s have restarted their training sessions after pausing this service during lockdown restrictions, our Street Safety Team will be, once again, shadowing the charity’s workers for a shift to gain even further insight into how we can best support and help the area’s rough sleepers.

We are also planning an interactive webinar featuring St Mungo’s and our Street Safety Team for our members to learn more about how they work and what you can do to support rough sleepers in the Quarter, so keep an eye out in our newsletter for more details over the coming weeks.

If you’re concerned about anyone sleeping rough in the Quarter, or elsewhere, you can use Streetlink to help connect vulnerable people with local support services.
