Smarter Recycling Successfully Reduces Traffic

Here at BakerStreetQ our work to improve air quality, reduce noise, traffic and associated concerns with pedestrian safety continues to be a main priority.

And we know it’s something you care about too, with 68% of responders to our recent, independent Member Survey being concerned by traffic-related issues.

So we’re delighted that a recent study by the University of Westminster shows that our area-wide waste service programme, Smarter Recycling, has resulted in a 12% reduction of waste vehicles in the Quarter since launch.

And we have a huge opportunity to reduce vehicles further – and, incidentally, reduce members’ costs even more (savings to date amount to £97,000) – by encouraging area-wide shredding within the scheme. Most people have their own supplier so in a building with, say, eight different businesses there are potentially eight different waste vehicles collecting their confidential waste. Our supplier, Paper Round offers a high quality, secure shredding service and, through our Smarter Recycling programme, we can reduce vehicle collections to just one per building.
