Our Retailers Scrub-up Well To Support NHS
6 May 2020
As well as all the great work that many of our businesses are doing to help those in need within the Quarter, our retailers have been pulling out all the stops, and some in very imaginative ways, to add their support the coronavirus cause…
Sunspel on Chiltern Street has joined those helping ensure NHS staff are properly protected by harnessing its garment makers’ skills to make face masks. And as fashion designer Suzannah on New Quebec Street has joined forces with the Emergency Design Network to produce much needed scrubs, PURL London came up with a novel way to help fund the cost of making the scrubs by running a competition, #cocktails4scrubs, where entrants had the chance to win one of 20 places to attend a unique cocktail and food pairing at their cocktail bar on Blandford Street – after the lockdown!
NHS staff have been fed healthy, nutritional meals, too, by some of the Quarter’s finest restaurants and eateries. Tossed, Bill’s, Boxcar Butcher & Grill have all prepared food to feed the frontline. As has Jikoni on Wigmore Street, whose owners Ravinder and Nadeem, have taken to the kitchen to make 100 meals a day for NHS staff. Aussi-style eatery, Daisy Green Collection, has been raising money for NHS through tea and coffee sales, and making 3,000 cakes a for key workers at St Mary’s and other hospitals.
There are many ways that retailers are helping out and one of them by A.O.K on Dorset Street, has so far raised over £152,000 for care packages.
