Marble Arch Mound Opens Today With A Spectacular Light Exhibition
22 July 2021
The plans for Marble Arch Mound were met with intrigue when announced in February, and the wait is now over: you can see it for yourself as it opens to visitors today. Tickets to climb the 25m-high hill are on sale here, starting from £4.50 and with family tickets available. The attraction will give visitors an experience of the outdoors and will have a never-before-seen 360-degree view of the local area. With the route comprising 130 stairs, the mound is also full accessible with a lift for those who require it.
As well as enjoying the view, visitors can experience a lightshow by artist Anthony James. The immersive lightshow is a partnership between Westminster City Council and W1 Curates, the team behind the art installation on the exterior of the Flannels store on Oxford Street. Lightfield consists of cubes, connected via ethernet cables, which communicate with each other via the computer ‘brain’. An interactive element allows the light to follow visitors as they walk through Lightfield. The exhibition will be at the heart of the mound and an additional attractor for visitors to the West End.
The Quarter is perfectly placed for dinner after your climb, so make the most of your outing by booking a meal at one of our many restaurants. To make your way to the Quarter, take a route via Old Quebec Street to see the results of a new public realm scheme, with new planters installed and, from the autumn, new atmospheric lighting on the neighbouring church and pavement.
