International Day of Charity – How You Can Help
5 September 2022
Today is International Day of Charity, the UN observed day which focuses on mobilising people to help others through giving and volunteering. Our Smarter Giving programme helps our businesses to direct their charitable efforts locally. We can connect local charities who have specific needs from financial support, volunteers, supplies to meeting room and event space with businesses looking to donate or support charities.
Here is a snapshot of some of the ways you can support local charities:
Ways You Can Get Involved
Supporting Education – helping with literacy, personal statements or university applications
Supporting Employment – inspire local students with a career talk, workshop or tour. Holding mock interviews, taking part in a careers fair, or providing work experience or apprenticeships
Donating Items and Appeals – if you have furniture or IT equipment to donate, we can connect you with charities looking for supplies. We hold regular clothes and food drives and a Christmas appeal for businesses to take part in
Volunteering Your Time – become a mentor to local students, or give you time and expertise in your business area to help charities
Supporting Sustainability – we organise planting and gardening days, and facilitate donations to increase green space in the borough
