Helping You To Travel To The Workplace Safely
27 July 2020
The survey we’ve carried out for the past few weeks has revealed that 92% of respondees are planning to return to the workplace by September, mostly in a part time capacity. Whilst government advice is currently to work from home if you can, they have published a number of safety guidelines for businesses, with further announcements expected on 1 August.
An important part of returning to work is travel and the government has announced that anyone can now use public transport. Safety guidelines are in place alongside strict cleaning regimes that have been implemented across the transport network including TfL and Chiltern Railways. The current advice is to plan your journey in advance, use alternative ways of traveling if possible i.e. by bike or foot and to travel off peak. TfL have introduced a host of resources you can use to help you to plan your journey to the Quarter, including free online training and other cycling and walking tips which you can find here.
We also know from our survey that 52% of the Quarter’s workers are planning to walk or cycle to work and you’ve fed back to us that you require additional support for your workforce to enable them to do this. Our partners TfL and Westminster City Council have put in place the following temporary measures to facilitate these needs:
Additional cycle storage:
-
- Additional cycle parking facilities i.e. hoops and racks in key locations Dorset Street/Baker Street, Manchester Square, Blandford Street/Baker Street (East and West) and Fitzhardinge Street/Baker Street
- We are working with private land and building owners to explore opportunities to install secure cycle storageet
- A Cyclehoop Bikehanger has recently been installed on Chiltern Street. Bikehanger’s can be purchased for individual company use. If this is of interest please do let us know
Extra space has been made for cyclists and pedestrians on routes form major transport hubs including:
- An additional space for pedestrians from Marylebone Station to Baker Street station along Melcombe Street
- Additional cycle and walking space in Paddington Station, Praed Street, Hyde Park and Westbourne Terrace
- New pop up cycling lane on the Euston Road and Park Lane
- Opened up Baker Street station forecourt
