Help For Rough Sleepers
12 November 2020
As we head further into winter and temperatures drop, there is increasing concern for vulnerable individuals and those that are living on the streets without access to safe shelter. Thankfully, there are organisations out there that provide crucial support and outreach services to those that need it.
Westminster City Council work with partner organisations to provide a team of outreach workers available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their services include day centres and hostels for rough sleepers, specialist housing for people with mental health problems, learning disabilities and young homeless people, and ‘floating support’ services to enable people to maintain their independence in their own home. In addition to this, they offer counselling to help people overcome drug and alcohol addiction, befriending services and employment and skills training. You can find out more here.
One of these partner organisations is the West London Mission who work hard to support those that are homeless or living in poverty. Their centres located across west London, offer support and safety to those sleeping on the street as well as a range of services such as counselling and affordable housing. West London Mission are currently facing a triple blow of reduced income, increased costs and very vulnerable residents, making the delivery of their services a real challenge. Your business can make a real difference to the support that West London Mission is able to provide by donating funds, furniture, IT kit or personal care items – find out more here.
Our Street Safety Team continue to work with outreach services to refer individuals in need for support. If you are concerned about anyone sleeping on the streets, you can send an alert to Streetlink.
