Elizabeth Line Milestone
6 February 2023
TfL reported last week that the capital’s newest rail service, the Elizabeth Line, has seen more than one hundred million journeys since opening in May 2022. The data also revealed that ridership on the line is currently above expected levels with around 600,000 journeys made each day, meaning the railway is one of the busiest in the UK.
This is great news for the Quarter’s businesses, benefitting from the newly refurbished and extended station at Bond Street that opened in October, creating a new gateway to the area and enabling businesses to attract new customers as well as staff.
As we develop our Placemaking Strategy further this year, we will be looking at ways to capitalise on this entry point, exploring projects that improve wayfinding and accessibility. More about these the Strategy can be found in our Business Plan 2023-2028. Consultation has recently taken place, taking on the views of residents, workers, visitors and business owners – a report from which is expected very soon.
On 21 May, final version of the Elizabeth line timetable will be launched, increasing the number of trains to 24 per hour during the peak and 16 trains per hour off-peak, and removing any significant dwell times for trains between Paddington and Acton Main Line.
