Duty to Protect

For the first time, there may be a legal requirement to ensure businesses have plans in place to prepare for and respond to terrorist attacks. The Government is currently consulting on this proposed Duty to Protect legislation, and our upcoming webinar on 26 May will talk you through the proposals and how they could impact your business and building. Michael Wood and Georgie Barnard of the West End Security Group will share how businesses and venues might be affected, what might be required and how to respond to the consultation, which the Government is keen to hear feedback on.

We will explore:

• some of the key Duty to Protect issues
• the definition of a ‘public space’ or ‘publicly accessible location’
• how a proposed Duty might be applied to owners, operators and responsible parties
• whether current arrangements for joint working with statutory partners are fit for purpose
• what additional support may be needed by businesses impacted by any legislation

Duty to Protect is likely to impact organisations that own or operate in publicly accessible locations, which could potentially include any premises where the public have access. Our webinar will focus on what Duty to Protect means for commercial buildings and office-based businesses, and will therefore be relevant to building, facilities and office management and those in senior security, resilience and operational risk assessment roles. The Government is seeking feedback from venues that would be affected to help inform the proposed legislation.
