Crossrail Update
11 December 2020
The Crossrail project took a step forward this month when the Mayor of London, Transport for London and HM Treasury confirmed a funding and financing package for the final phase of the project.
This long anticipated project has now received funding which will allow work, which is in the final stages, to continue at pace. It is expected that intensive testing will begin as early as possible in 2021, before the Elizabeth line is expected to open through central London in the first half of 2022. Find the full announcement on the TfL website here.
When fully open, it will increase London’s rail capacity by 10%, carrying more than half a million passengers per day between Essex, Berkshire and central London. With the line calling at Bond Street, the Quarter’s workers will see the benefits as their commute times reduce.
