Business Resilience Toolkit

The team at West End Security Group (WESG) – the member-led organisation that seeks to ensure that organisations are better prepared to deal with the threat of a terrorist incident or other major disruptive event – has put together a practical toolkit that focuses on ensuring that businesses are ready for just about anything.

The toolkit features a straightforward checklist of eight areas of activity, each one supported by relevant guidance and/or further information, which collectively come together in an accessible, simple to follow and easy to complete format. The checklist can be printed off and act as your own set of notes to keep track of your progress or confirm that you are hitting all eight aspects. For more information and to apply for the toolkit (free of charge) visit the WESG website.

Baker Street Quarter Partnership, along with other central London BIDs and landowners/estates, form the membership of the WESG group, representing more than 6,000 businesses across Westminster. The group works closely with Police and the local authority, meeting regularly to discuss current threats and activities to tackle these to improve businesses’ and the wider area’s resilience. Recent focus has been on the government’s forthcoming Duty To Protect legislation and the obligations this places on businesses and buildings in the area.

On the topic of resilience, our next annual Table-top Exercise takes place this March, bringing together the area’s security and business continuity teams to look at emergency planning, sharing best practice and exploring other potential incidents, such as cyber security vulnerabilities. The training aims to build a better understanding of tried and tested incident response models and how these frameworks can be applied to a business context, with a focus on allowing attendees to identify gaps in their own incident response plans or if they don’t have one, how a plan might be pulled together. The training is provided by cyber and policing experts from the police Cyber Griffin team and is much sought after across the capital.
