Biking to Baker Street Quarter
Many of you have told us how important cycling with be for your employees and your business as you return to the workplace. So we are working hard to support you with this and would value your input at this stage to inform our programme. We have has many enquiries from members regarding cycling provision and storage in the local area. TfL are predicting a ‘tenfold increase’ of those opting to cycle to the workplace. With this in mind, we are putting in place a number of facilities and exploring other activities in support of our members and their employees:
Increasing secure cycle storage – with demand for cycle storage expected to be very high as offices begin to reopen, we’ve been working with Westminster City Council to identify new suitable locations across the area for cycle storage. Temporary racks are now in place on Dorset Street/Baker Street, Manchester Square, Blandford Street/Baker Street (East and West) and Fitzhardinge Street/Baker Street. In addition to this, we are working with private land and building owners to explore opportunities to install secure cycle storage.
Bike storage location map – we have developed a map detailing all the new and existing locations of public access bike storage throughout the Quarter. You can view and share this here.
Cyclehoop Bikehangars – already installed in Chiltern Street – thanks to Westminster City Council and the GLA – Cyclehoop’s unique bike storage solution, the Bikehangar, protects up to six bikes from weather and vandalism, using the equivalent of half the space of a car parking bay. If this type of secure cycling storage is something that would be of interest to your business to invest in, please do let us know. It is worth noting that these require planning permission to be installed on the public highway or pavement but not if you have space for one on private property.
Bikeworks – we are excited to be working with Bikeworks – a London-based social enterprise, who offer a range of programmes and activities to encourage people to travel more actively, safely and sustainably. Their programmes include everything from Dr Bike cycle maintenance sessions through to workshops and webinars, debunking myths around cycling, as well as individual accompanied rides and group training sessions – all with the aim of building confidence in cycling around the capital.
We are planning to run a webinar and have preferential rates on the services offered by Bikeworks for our members. To help us to develop this programme please complete this survey. Or contact us [email protected].
