Adding Christmas Sparkle To The Quarter
6 November 2020
Adding some much-needed cheerfulness to the Quarter in these uncertain times, our light installations are back. We’re hoping this will give some extra cheer for the essential workers continuing to work in the area and the wider community, in readiness for the pre-Christmas return we’re all hoping for.
The displays will begin at the northern gateway to Baker Street which will see 16 festive geese – a nod to Sherlock Holmes and his only Christmas caper, The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle – along with a further three site-specific installations at 55 Baker Street, Portman Square Garden and Manchester Square Garden. The displays represent fascinating stories from the Quarter’s history, its famous residents and locations such as Baker Street Bazaar and the Marylebone Pleasure Garden and are linked together by lamppost illuminations along Baker Street.
Why not take in the lights as part of your permitted exercise or en route to the shops to buy your essentials? We are also hoping to organise a guided walking tour of the installations in December. To register your interest, email us here.
Special thanks to The Portman Estate and Portman Square Garden Trust, and Manchester Square Garden Trust, for their support in making these outdoor spaces sparkle.
