Baker Street Two Way Project – Consultation Results

Thank you to the many of you who completed the Two Way public consultation, there were over 1400 responses in total.

We are delighted that so many of you support the premise of the project with over half of people responding in support of changing Baker Street and Gloucester Place to two way flow. 75% support creating a new straight across crossing on Marylebone road, 69% support increasing the number of pedestrian crossings, 61% support providing cycle lanes on Gloucester Place and 60% welcome widening the footway. We’re pleased that these changes, which we strongly support, are welcomed by others too.

Of course a project of this scale and complexity means that not all aspects of the initial proposals were right for all users of the area and less support was shown for the proposals for specific junctions as well as concerns being raised regarding rat-running, air quality and parking. This meant that, when taking the project overall, only 39% were supportive. However, we are confident that proposed alternations to the project design at specific locations will address many localised concerns. These will shortly be discussed with stakeholder groups and we understand are likely to be consulted on further early next year. The parking and loading consultation, as previously publicised, will be a separate consultation exercise, we believe to follow the next stage. Air Quality is a key priority for BakerStreetQ. The full air quality study related to the scheme has yet to be released and we understand will also now be extended to consider the project alterations. TfL’s initial air quality study for the project showed that it has no significant impact on air quality in the area.

Thank you once again to the many who responded and we look forward to seeing the plans further develop. If you’re a member and would like to discuss the report, your views or the next steps please do get in touch.
