Simpler Recycling

From 1 April 2026, Simpler Recycling will officially extend to households across the country, marking a major step forward in creating a consistent, easy-to-follow recycling system for everyone. 

This change means that whether you are at home or at work, the same recycling standards will apply nationwide. By removing the variations that have historically existed between different local areas, the Government aims to make recycling more straightforward and accessible for all. 

Simpler Recycling was first introduced to businesses in April 2025, and the results have already been highly encouraging. Many organisations have reported a significant increase in recycling rates, driven largely by clearer guidance and greater consistency in waste separation. 

With households now joining the same system, this positive trend is expected to continue. A single, unified standard reduces confusion about what can and cannot be recycled, helping people to recycle more confidently and correctly.
