Deposit Return Scheme

Starting in 2027, a small deposit will be added to drinks cans and plastic bottles, which consumers can reclaim by returning the empty containers for recycling. The scheme represents a major move towards higher recycling rates and a more effective circular economy in the UK. 

While the changes will be most noticeable for retailers and hospitality venues, offices and workplaces will not be exempt. Many will need to upgrade their recycling facilities so employees can return containers conveniently and compliantly.
