A Merry Christmas in Marylebone
7 November 2022
There’s lots going on around the area over the next few weeks in the lead up to Christmas. Here we have a taster of local events and activities to help you get into the festive feeling.
Our sparkling festive light displays will be switched on from Thursday 17 November with installations at the junction of Marylebone Road and Baker Street, outside of 55 Baker Street, in Manchester Square and on lampposts along the length of Baker Street. We’ve given the lights in Portman Square an upgrade, creating new displays at the entry points to the Gardens and a glittering new bauble in the south-eastern corner. As with previous years, the installations feature low energy LEDs and are on timers set from 16.00 – 23.00. Each of the displays represent an event or era from the area’s history, including Lady Montagu’s blue stocking parties, the Baker Street Bazaar, and the Sherlock Holmes festive tale, ‘The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle’. Our walking tour of the displays, providing more background information to the history, is taking place on Wednesday 7 December – more information is available here.
Those looking for unique gifts for their loved ones should head to Chiltern Street where they’ll find an array of boutique shops offering everything from clothing and accessories to jewellery, perfume and whisky! Our Directory features all of businesses to help inspire.

On Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 December, The Wallace Collection will be hosting two webinars – The Childhood of Christ in Art with Dr. Richard Stemp – providing art enthusiasts the opportunity to dissect and delve into a range of art works created by world-renowned painters. Over the two sessions, participants will learn how the biblical narrative was combined with ideas from diverse sources to create the familiar image of Christmas. The sessions will take place live on Zoom from 18:00 to 20:00. Prices start from £35 for members and £40 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased directly from The Wallace Collection website.
On Thursday 10 November, Marylebone Village is hosting its annual Christmas Lights and Shopping Event, with food and drink stalls, wreath-making, roaming music and shopping discounts and offers. More information is available at the Marylebone Village website.
